THE CHARACTERISTICS OF YOUNG LEARNERS

Young learners are students that study in the first time. They have many characteristics. The characteristics of young leaners can be seen in three sides. They are physical, social and pshycological side. The first is physical side, it means that comes from their body activity that can be used to explore their ability. For example, they can understand based on what they see and hear to their teachers. The physical activity fo young learners are coloring,drawing, writing, and the other activity that uses their physical. They can develop their ability and their imagination based on what they like to do.for coloring, let them to color what color they like. For drawing, let them to draw what they like to draw and for writing,  it is same with coloring and drawing. So let them do what they want and like to do.

The second side is social side. It means thet they have high sociality to the other. They are happy to play and work together with their friends. They want to build a good relationship with their friends. Eventhough, they are angry with their friends but they always forgive to the other.

The third side is pshycological side. It is about the pshycological of the children. Of course, every students have different pshycologicsl. Here there are some characteristics of pshycological :

1.      They have short concentration span.

It means that they usually do not concentrate to their teachers who are teaching the lesson to them. The teachers must bring their concentration to pay attention the lesson. The teachers must creative to over come it by using various techniques in order to make the students comfortable with the lesson. So, they will pay attention the lesson..

2.      Free of prejudice.

It means that the children have large imagination and thinking. Here there are two prejudice, they are bad and good prejudice. So we are as the teachers must guide them to be a good prejudice. We have to limit their prejudice with a good thinking in order to be a good person in their future.

3.      They are forgetfull.

It means that they always forget what they had done and learned last time. As a teacher, we have to make them remember about the lesson that we have learned last time. By giving them questions so it can make them remember everything. After that we can continue the next lesson.

4.      They like imitating.

It means that they always imitate what they see and hear. The teacher must became a good model for them. We have to control our doing and our talking in front of the students. If we do not control our actions they will imitate our actions. So we have do a good things in front of the students in order to they will imitate a good things from us not a bad things. The teachers must make them to be a good person.

           

So, we are as a good teachers must be able to overcome all events that happened in the class. We must have a good ability and become a good model for them. We must give everything what they want and do not limit their actions. Eventhough, we do not limit their actions but we have to control and guide to be a good person.
